Lucia Grossberger Morales uses multimedia and technology to tell her story of emigrating from Bolivia to the U.S. Born during the 1952 Bolivian Revolution, she moved to New York in 1955. In the late 1980s, a dream of standing on a bridge between Bolivia and the U.S. became a metaphor for her work—rooted in both cultures.

Lucia discovered her artistic voice through technology in 1979 with the Apple II. Despite struggling in math, she embraced computing and coauthored The Designer’s Tool Kit in 1982. In 1987, she collaborated with Bob Bishop on Space Lace: An Interactive Kaleidoscope, which was exhibited at SIGGRAPH and other major venues, most recently in 2014.

On her fifth birthday, Lucia felt called to tell her story. In 1987, she used digital tools to create Sangre Boliviana, a multimedia CD-ROM exploring her complex identity through layered images, sound, text, and video.

Her installations combine hand-made shrines and computers, exhibited across the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. Today, she continues to explore new technologies, including AI, augmented reality, and virtual galleries.
